“Phyto-Bioactive Compound Data Base” is a dynamic information data bank developed by the “Pharmaceutical Information Center” of Tianjin Institute of Pharmaceutical Research (TIPR) as one of the 1035 state engineering project supported of the “Ministry of Science and Technology of the people’s Republic of China.” The Data Base reviewed more than 300 domestic and foreign periodicals published since 1982 and recruited over 8000 phyto-bioactive compounds. Identity and information of each compound described in the database included Name in Chinese; Name in English; Synonym; Chemical name; CAS registry number; Structural formula; Molecular formula; Molecular weight; Chemical category; Plant origin; Physicochemical property; Bioactivity; Patent information and Reference, 14 in all.

The Data Base provides rich information for practical use. The format is a conscious effort to present accurate data and valuable enlightenments for people working on research and development in various scientific fields such as pharmacy, medicine and biology. It is an indispensable reference dynamic information data bank for most people working in scientific field.

At present, the “Data Base” has attained a certain scope. As the work is still in progress, academicians Xiao Pei-gen, Shen Jia-xiang, Yu Meng-sun and Liu Chang-xiao showed their support and acknowledgements which greatly encouraged and promoted its progress.
