Tianjin Institute of Pharmaceutical Research (TIPR),
founded in 1959, was ever affiliated to the State Food and Drug
Administration, P. R. China (SFDA). It has turned to a wholly
state-owned hi-tech enterprise since 2000, mainly focusing on
research and development (R&D) of new drugs.
Organization and Research Direction
TIPR′s research fields include chemical synthetic medicines,
traditional Chinese medicines, pharmacology, drug evaluation,
drug analysis and quality control, novel formulation technology
and engineering, new drug discovery, and drug informatics. TIPR
holds research centers such as Tianjin State Key Laboratory of
Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics, Tianjin Center for New
Drug Safety Evaluation and Research and Tianjin Research Center
for New Drug Discovery. The major research directions of TIPR
include R&D of innovative drugs for disease curing and
prevention, development of new drug formulations and
manufacturing technology and industrialization of new products
and technologies. Moreover, TIPR provides technology platforms
and services on new drug evaluation, quality control and drug
informatics.
Research Team
TIPR possesses a working group of experts, including one
academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, experts who get
special allowance granted by the State Council of China, members
of State Pharmacopoeia Committee, members of Expert Committee on
Drug Pricing of State Development and Reform Commission, experts
authorized by Tianjin Municipal Government, and experts in new

creative and highly competent in the field of drug research and
development. TIPR offers Master and PhD programmes in the
subjects of pharmacology, pharmaceutics, pharmacy, and
traditional Chinese medicines jointly with universities in
China. Besides, TIPR has Postdoctoral Research Station under the
approval of the Ministry of Personnel of China.
Achievements and Transformation
About 100 projects, including “973” and “863” key research
projects of National Science Foundation of China, have been
